On Saturday Avery and I went to a birthday party for Jesus at our church. It was a small little party with about 10, 3-4 year olds. We had a great time. We brought gifts to baby Jesus - some donations that will help the local pregnancy center, played pin the tail on the donkey - where everyone won a prize, decorated cookies - complete with a candle for our birthday song and tried to bust the candy out of the pinata - that didn't work until an adult took a couple swings at it! It was a really great time for us to celebrate the birth of Jesus on a 3 year old level. Sometimes it's wierd to think that Jesus would have had birthdays - I wonder what the tradition was for birthdays back then?? Did Mary make a cake? Did they sing to him? I feel like celebrating with a child in these sorts of ways allows me to make the childhood of Jesus a little more real. It's easy to picture him as the wonderful preacher, teacher and friend he was when he was an adult
but I sometimes forget that he had a childhood too and he was a baby! So, this party was a great way to celebrate his birth, just like we would any new baby that comes into the world...except his birth was so different! Not just how he came into the world - being born in a stable, but who he was when he came!
God's son!
Our savior!
King of Kings!
Lord of Lords!
The real reason for this special time of year!
Thank you God for sending your son! And thank you for allowing me to have the opportunity to stop for an hour and be reminded of the way you sent him...as a baby!
Merry Christmas!

I'm sure these memories will be etched in Avery's mind forever. I love when I hear of people celebrating Jesus' birthday. We do a cake each year but a flat our party is an AWESOME idea!
