Thou Shalt Not Lie

I have been working on multiple blog entries and just saving them until I have time to go back and write/upload pictures. But in the mean time I had to post about this, in case I forget.

Yesterday Avery came walking into the kitchen with a plate of goldfish...

*side note* - getting your own snack is not allowed in our house, unless you ask permission first.

So, I asked her where she got the goldfish and if she had asked first. She said "I asked Daddy, he said I could." Well, I know that Daddy had been upstairs working in his office and she had not been up there any time recently. So, I asked again and got the same answer. I asked 2-3 more times, knowing that she was lying and she finally caved and said she did not ask Daddy.

She was sent to time out and not allowed to eat any more goldfish.

At least 5 minutes goes by and I get her out of timeout. She had a "fresh" batch of goldfish in her mouth and I asked her where she had gotten that. Avery - "It was in my mouth the whole time I was in timeout".
Mommy is not dumb..."So you mean to tell me that you have been sitting there with goldfish in your mouth and it hasn't gotten soggy?"
Avery "Yes, I had it in there the whole time."

I explained to her that I know when she is lying and I gave her the chance to tell the truth again. I told her that lying gets you worse punishment than telling the truth the first time. And that broke her lie. She confessed that Riley had given her a plate of goldfish and she took some and ate it.

Well, up to the room we went with our friend "wisdom worker". I spanked her bottom (which I HATE doing) and told her calmly to think about what she had done and I would be back to talk to her.

While I went into Ryan's office to explain to him what she had done and that she had gotten her 2nd spanking in a matter of 4 days (she hardly ever gets spankings anymore) we hear her praying "I am so sorry God! I don't know why I did that. I am so sorry! I am so sorry God!"

Talk about melting your heart! I let her wallow in her disobedience a little while longer and went in to talk to her about why lying is bad and what the Bible says about it. etc. etc.

She really does have a soft heart and it doesn't take much to get to her so she was very sorry. I pray we can nip this little lying streak in the bud...it's not fun.

You're doing such a good job Amber. Ugh...some of this "training" stuff is so hard. But!!! Well worth it in the end. Thanks for being such an inspiration. Your girls are precious to us!!
