Tonight Avery and I were sitting at the dinner table when she said something about having Jesus in her heart. I told her in order to get Jesus to live in your heart, you have to ask him to come into it. You need to ask for forgiveness of your sins - times you mess up and then ask Jesus to help you make the right choices. I briefly explained the reason Jesus was sent to the earth to die for our sins.
She was so sweet and actually a little shy.
We had this conversation about 9 months ago and she had said then"NO" she didn't want Jesus in her heart, it was a very emphatic "NO" back then, so I let the conversation go. So, since she brought it up again this time, I felt like I needed to at least ask her if she wanted to ask Jesus into her heart. When she said "yes" this time I felt like I needed to really go into the whole thing with her
It wasn't a long conversation. We prayed a short prayer and she was so sweet, holding my hands as we sat across from each other at the dinner table. She is only 4 but I really feel like as much as a 4 year old, or anyone for that matter can really grasp the salvation concept, she understood.
I briefly struggled with the fact that she is so young, how could she really know what she was doing. But there is no age restrictions when it comes to salvation! And it's as easy as it seems. There doesn't have to be any fancy service or special alter call, it's as simple as saying the words! It was a sweet time for me, to remember how easy and FREE salvation is! What a wonderful gift we have been given! And what a tremendous blessing that my little 4 year old wanted to give her heart over to the Lord.
May she always walk in His ways and may she never loose the wonder of it all! Thank you Lord!
After the prayer she said "Mom, Riley is a toddler right?" "Yes she is" I said. Avery says "Riley is a toddler and I am a Christian". (Completely unrelated but both true!)
Matt 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
