Wonder

What fills you with wonder? When I saw my newborn babies for the first time, my breath left me. New life tends to render me speechless, which is why I love the wonder of spring. Tulips, hyacinths, and irises press through hard, cold clumps of earth in resurrection wonder. Baby robins, wide-eyed and hungry, chirp expectantly. Why, even the sun hovers longer, not wanting to miss the unfolding of this lively season. Our peek-a-boo glimpses of God fill us with a sense of divine reality, like a preview of things to come. We are promised that one day the veil will be lifted from our eyes, and we will see the Lord face-to-face. Imagine that! Try as I might, it is difficult to grasp that kind of holy revelation. But until the day when the mysterious becomes known, God bestows on us encounters in which, for a moment, we are aware we are on holy ground. Speaking of holy ground, isn't all the earth God's territory? All we known of creation is the Lord's. Therefore, each step we take is on holy land, which means we are on a sacred journey. Sometimes this is hard to remember when we're struggling up a craggy mountain, our shins raw and hands bleeding. Then we thrust our bruised bodies onto the mountaintop, pull ourselves upright, and see the view...the wondrous view. This month let us run, walk, and tiptoe, barefoot and aware that we're on holy ground. Whether we are planting gardens, flipping pancakes, toting our briefcase, or singing in the choir, may we be attuned to the wonder of it all. - Patsy Clairmont (This is an excerpt from my devotional book for the month of April. I thought I would share it because I am not a writer and could never paint such a vivid picture but I love it! Hope it helps you to see the glory of God that surrounds each of us every day!)
